Biographies
Ambrose Reynolds
Artistic Director and founding member of USL, Ambrose has played Bass Guitar for many bands including Pink Industry, Ded Byrds, Nightmares in Wax, and a short lived collaborative group with Holly Johnson that Ambrose named “Frankie Goes To Hollywood”. He has recorded and produced dozens of records for WEA, Sire, Factory and his own independent label Zulu Records. Ambrose has a keen interest in all kinds of music including Jazz, World Music, Drum and Bass.
Karl John
Lead Drummer Karl has played with USL since 1987. Karl has worked with many leading lights such as Steel and Skin and The Last Poets. Karl worked his way up to become Lead Drummer for Delado African Drum and Dance Company. He has worked as a session musician for nearly all the great Liverpool groups. Karl’s skills in African Drum and Hip Hop styles has revolutionised USL's musical repertoire, creating a link between contemporary and ancient forms of music.
Liz Carlisle
Administrative Director and Musician, Liz originally joined USL in 1990 as administrator and became part of the creative team in 1994. Trombonist Liz has a degree in Performing Arts and brings with her a diverse knowledge of all kinds of music from Classical to Rave, helping to enrich the musical flavour of the group.
The group has gone through several personnel changes since the beginning, each of these people have played a great role in making USL a success through their contributions to the group.
